Books by Belarus Segodnya Publishing House journalists awarded in Moscow

The awards ceremony has taken place today as part of the 37th Moscow International Book Fair, with three editions prepared by journalists of the Belarus Segodnya Publishing House announced as winners of the 21st CIS International Art of Book Contest

This year, 63 publications from six CIS member states – Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan – have been submitted to the book contest. The competition is organised across several nominations: Commonwealth, My Country, Dialogue of Cultures, Book for Children and Youth, Science and Education, Art Book, Art of Illustration, Printed in the Commonwealth, Victory, and Grand Prix.

The first degree diploma in the Commonwealth nomination went to the Belarus Publishing House for the preparation and release of the book: The Taste of Colour Revolutions. This publication was prepared on the basis of an international project of the same name – unrivalled worldwide – organised by the EcooM Analytical Centre in liaison with the Belarus Segodnya Publishing House. Its first issue appeared on the pages of Belarus’ main newspaper – SB. Belarus Segodnya – on December 11th, 2021. The essence of the project is that dozens of leading political scientists, analysts and publicists from over twenty countries of the world presented to Belarusian readers their vision of the ‘colour revolution’ phenomenon, which has firmly entered global politics and destroyed the previous picture of the world. This newspaper project aims to answer the questions: what is this phenomenon, what kind of antidote it can have, and why colour revolutions techniques – practiced in a dozen different states – proved to be untenable in Belarus and Russia.

The Taste of Colour Revolutions book, prepared on its basis, has already been republished in Belarus four times, being recognised as a bestseller of 2023. The edition owes much of its success not only to a very representative team of authors, but also to the bright, convincing and emotionally catchy graphics developed by Maksim Shnip, who heads the Illustration Department of the Joint Secretariat at the Belarus Segodnya Publishing House.

The publication was commissioned by the Information Ministry of Belarus. Earlier, The Taste of Colour Revolutions received the Grand Prix of the National Art of Book Contest and the Triumph award.

In December 2023, the Belarus Segodnya Publishing House launched a special project – The Taste of Colour Revolutions – in support of the book of the same title. All the materials of the project are available at http://sp.sb.by/colorrevolutions. The website and the book are to some extent an anthology of coups and attempts at such from 1954 to the present day.

The second degree diploma in the Art Book nomination was awarded to the book – We Know, We Are Proud! – by Irina Ovsepyan, the Editor of the Culture Department of the Belarus Segodnya Publishing House, boasting expressive drawings by the artist from the same publishing house Oleg Karpovich. The project We Know, We Are Proud! – published on the pages of the Belarus Segodnya newspaper and united under the book cover – describes the history of the country as a whole and the people who contributed to Belarus’ culture, literature, development and not only created outstanding works recognised as classical pieces, but also became a symbol of selfless service to the Motherland for Belarusians.
