BMW leads European electric car market

In July, the German company BMW became the leader of the European electric car market, increasing sales by more than a third and for the first time surpassing the American Tesla corporation in this regard, TASS reports with reference to the British company JATO Dynamics specialising in the analysis of car market data

According to source, sales of BMW electric vehicles in Europe increased by 35 percent last month, the number of cars sold reached almost 15 thousand. At the same time, sales of Elon Musk's electric cars decreased by 16 percent (14.5 thousand). Analysts at JATO Dynamics note that Tesla still remains a popular brand of electric vehicles in Europe, but is increasingly inferior in demand to BMW, in particular its latest models: iX1, i4 and i5.

As stated by JATO Dynamics, 139.3 thousand electric cars were sold on the European market in July, or 6 percent less than in the same period last year. Felipe Munoz, an analyst at the British company, believes that the reason for such a reduction was ‘a lack of clarity about the incentives for the production of electric vehicles and their future’.
