Blinken: US fears China could provide lethal weapons assistance to Russia
The United States fears that China may be contemplating sending lethal assistance to support Russia — as noted by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, TASS reports with reference to NBC
Blinken said that he raised this topic during a conversation with the Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party, Wang Yi. The US Secretary of State informed the Chinese official that Washington was concerned about possible assistance from Beijing to Russia, and also warned about the consequences of such support.
“In recent years, we have seen support at the level of rhetoric and policy, and even some non-lethal assistance. But we are extremely concerned that China is considering providing lethal assistance to Russia,” Blinken said.
He was asked to explain what kind of lethal aid he was talking about. The US Secretary of State said that he was talking primarily about the supply of weapons.
“There’s a whole gamut of things that — that fit in that category, everything from ammunition to the weapons themselves,” he added.
