Bill On Belarusian People’s Congress discussed in Council of the Republic
A meeting of the expert council was held under the leadership of the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova – as reported in the press service of the upper house of Belarusian Parliament
Opening the meeting, Natalya Kochanova stressed that the legislators face a serious and responsible task of drafting bills aimed at creating legal mechanisms for implementing the constitutional innovations adopted at the nationwide referendum.
Giving the Belarusian People’s Congress the constitutional status of the highest representative body of the people’s power of the Republic of Belarus necessitates the development of a completely new law.
The bill On the Belarusian People’s Congress is in a high degree of readiness. The document will clearly define the authority of this body to develop and implement the main directions of foreign and domestic policy, economic strategy, address other vital issues for the country, as well as the possibility of participation of civil society actors in its work. The developed approaches should be taken into account in the Electoral Code of the Republic of Belarus.
“We must develop an absolutely consolidated opinion before this issue is discussed at a meeting with the Head of State,” Natalya Kochanova stressed.
