Belyaev explains why Europe is facing a migration crisis

A critical situation has developed on the Italian island of Lampedusa due to the migration crisis, and in general the problem of refugees is more than relevant for the EU. Dean of the Faculty of Journalism at the Belarusian State University Aleksei Belyaev explained the reasons for this in his talk with Alfa Radio.

“The refugee problem is a problem that Europe has created for itself, largely artificially,” he noted “Why do refugees go to Europe? Because they have difficult conditions at home, which, by the way, were largely provoked by the Europeans who invaded and disrupted the political peace, creating military conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa. Today people from these countries are fleeing in search of a better life, they are fleeing war and poverty. Moreover, Europe itself has long positioned itself as a big, joyful home for everyone, promising that it will provide support to all. Europe received the population, to whom it immediately began to pay benefits and provide social guarantees. People travelled and continue to travel under such conditions. Why don’t refugees come to Belarus in such numbers? Because, objectively, in order to obtain social benefits here, it’s necessary to work. A person becomes a citizen, receives a residence permit and then – affordable medicine and free education for children, but for this it’s necessary to contribute to the economy, i.e., to work. A significant part of people, especially from North African countries, do not have labour discipline or understanding of dependence on society. Many poorly educated people are accustomed not even to medieval, but to primitive communal orders, behaving in the corresponding way.”

According to Aleksei Belyaev, Europe – due to its rash steps – now finds itself in a situation that can be called hopeless, and tension in the relationship between indigenous Europeans and refugees will only increase.

“During the years of openness and multiculturalism, millions of refugees came to the EU,” stated the expert. “But now Europe simply doesn’t know what to do with them. Right now there is a lack of political will: either to close support programmes to limit refugees or to start sinking boats. Radical activists in Italy are already calling for this. If this happens, a global howl will begin: ‘Europe has deceived us and is destroying us’. Today, Europeans don’t already have a very good image; they are already neo-colonialists in the eyes of all of Africa. If they do this again, the entire European policy, the entire international direction of their activities will come to an end. The EU no longer has enough strength and resources to contain all this. Therefore, we see how, on the one hand, residents demand to stop [receiving refugees]. The Deputy Mayor of Lampedusa is shouting that they have always lived by tourism, fishing and want to continue in the same way, and they don’t need these refugees who ruin their lives. But on the other hand, the top leadership of Europe – in the person of Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and others – for huge money and bribes, is not yet ready to lose these sources of income and accept reasonable restrictions in the field of migration.”
