Belstat provided statistics on Belarusians’ health
On the eve of World Health Day, celebrated annually on April 7th, the National Statistical Committee of Belarus (Belstat) prepared a relevant statistical review, sb.by reports
* According to the sample survey of households by standard of living at the beginning of 2024, the population aged 16 years and older assesses their health status as ‘good’ and ‘satisfactory’. This answer was given by 93.1 per cent of respondents, of which 93.4 per cent – males, and 92.9 per cent – females.
* According to the preliminary data from the Ministry of Health, Belarusians consulted doctors 108.4m times in 2023. On average, 11.8 visits per resident were registered per year.
* By the end of 2023, 1,394 outpatient polyclinic organisations, 588 hospital organisations were operating in Belarus, 70,818 short-term hospital beds were functioning, 112,493 mid-level medical workers and 41,256 medical practitioners took care of patients' health.
* There are 45.1 medical practitioners per 10,000 people, and 122.9 mid-level medical personnel. The corresponding figures in Belarus are higher than in countries such as Spain, where 44.9 doctors work for a similar number of people, 44.7 in Lithuania, 43 in Bulgaria, and 42.5 in Italy. As for mid-level medical personnel, in the Netherlands there are 113.3 per 10,000 people, in Austria – 107.6, in Slovenia – 106.1, and in the Czech Republic – 90.6.
* 28.8 per cent of the Belarusian population over the age of 16 are engaged in physical education or sports, of which 24.6 per cent – males, and 31 per cent – females. For comparison, in 2010 this figure was at the level of 22.9 per cent.
* There are 436 specialised educational and sports institutions in Belarus with 151,965 students. 3,283 young people study at eleven Olympic reserve colleges in Belarus.
* By the end of 2023, there were more than 23,000 sports facilities in the Republic of Belarus, including 4,523 sports halls, 56 sports arenas, 178 stadiums, 366 swimming pools, 537 shooting ranges, 405 outdoor tennis courts, and 349 hockey rinks.
* In 2023, 1.026m people had a rest and improved their health in 462 sanatorium-resort, wellness and other similar specialised organisations (9.8 per cent more than in 2022), of which 81.6 per cent were citizens of the Republic of Belarus, and 18.4 per cent – foreign citizens.
* 542,600 people recuperated in 75 Belarusian sanatoriums (this figure increased by 5.8 per cent against the 2022 level), 71 per cent of them were citizens of Belarus, and 29 per cent were foreign citizens.
* In 2023, medical services were provided to foreign citizens of 147 countries – topped by the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and China.
