BelNPP made the most significant contribution to clean energy
The most significant contribution to clean energy in Belarus was made by the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) – as noted by Belarus’ Deputy Energy Minister Olga Prudnikova at today’s press conference
“Belarus started working on clean energy quite a long time ago. For example, the practice of using peat and water resources has existed in our country for many years. We switched to gas, and a huge amount of work was done, particularly, gasification of housing in all regions of Belarus,” recalled the Deputy Energy Minister.
According to her, the most significant contribution to clean energy was made by the Belarusian NPP. Thus, after the commissioning of the station, the country’s electrical energy needs will be covered by 40 percent. The two units have already generated about 24bn kWh per year.
“At the same time, we reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 12 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent – a very big figure,” added Olga Prudnikova.
