Belgospishcheprom exports to China up by 70+ percent
Over the past four years, the volume of products sold abroad by Belgospishcheprom Concern’s enterprises has increased by more than a third – as informed by Igor Grutso, the Head of Belgospishcheprom’s Department for Co-ordinating Domestic Sales and Foreign Trade Activity
“About two thirds of Belgospishcheprom’s exports go to the Russian Federation, and our products enjoy a great demand there. In addition, significant work was carried out last year to diversify foreign markets. Exports to China increased by more than 70 percent – on the account of rapeseed oil, confectionery, and alcoholic beverages. We supplied sugar to the African continent (Ghana, Burkina Faso) and sold malt to Equatorial Guinea. Supplies continued in January 2024 as well. Among the new markets were Iran and Mexico (alcoholic beverages are sold there), as well as Saudi Arabia and India (vegetable oil). Exports to New Zealand increased by 20 percent. The geography of exports exceeds 50 countries now,” Mr. Grutso informed.
As noted by the official, the export potential of Belarus’ food industry is far from being exhausted. “I think that we have good prospects for foreign trade this year as well – primarily thanks to the record harvest of sugar beet (about 5m tonnes), which will increase export supplies by 40 thousand tonnes,” he said. “At the same time, we will continue to diversify our sales markets. Belarusian sugar is sold not only to Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan. These are our partners within the Eurasian Economic Union, and we have certain obligations to them. We also plan to sell more than 20 thousand tonnes of sugar to Tajikistan. A contract for supplies to Mongolia was signed not long ago, and this country is also an interesting market for us. Trade co-operation has been established with the Middle East: Lebanon and Israel.”
