Belarusian State University implementing Family Values in Traditional Folk Culture project
The initiative is aimed at preserving traditions, historical memory, and promotion of moral and ethical values among the younger generation, sb.by reports with reference to the educational institution’s press service
It is noted that the project is presented within the framework of the Concept of National Cultural Space Development in All Spheres of Society for 2024-2026.
“Conceptually, the programme includes three blocks of events: educational, ethical and cultural. During the academic year, thematic lectures, exhibitions, master classes, open dialogue platforms and other activities are organised for BSU students, graduate students, and lecturers,” the source said.
The Songs of My Motherland: Let’s Sing Together folk music festival has become one of the key events, enabling young people to get acquainted with Belarusian folklore motifs, family and calendar folk songs. Also, the Belarusian Folk Culture Museum of the Philology Department organised master classes on folklore art therapy and thematic exhibitions dedicated to folklorists.
According to the press service, the project also involves the recreation of folk rituals and holidays: i.e. Kolyady and Calling for Spring. BSU students from China and Turkmenistan are also active participants of the process, sharing their folk and family traditions.
"Military folklore is an important component of the project," the press service added. “The Great Patriotic War Folklore lecture was organised, and its participants were told about different types and genres of military folklore, the role and significance of folk satire in defeating the enemy, and the songs that partisans sang. In addition, an exhibition of front-line photos, soldiers' letters and other iconic wartime items took place.”
The project will continue in the new academic year as well.
