Belarusian, Russian manufacturers to assemble IKEA under new brand
Belarus and the Leningrad Region of Russia are discussing the creation of a joint brand for production and sale of furniture with the participation of former IKEA suppliers, the press service of the Administration of the Leningrad Region reports
It is informed that the creation of a joint commercial chain with Belarus for the production and sale of furniture, which will replace the departed Swedish IKEA brand, was discussed by the Governor of the Leningrad Region, Aleksandr Drozdenko, as he visited the BYSPAN furniture showroom in Minsk, where the Bellesbumprom Concern held a presentation of samples of products from Belarusian furniture companies that had worked under the Swedish IKEA brand.
According to Mr. Drozdenko, Russia and Belarus are really able to assemble IKEA furniture under a new brand. Belarusians informed that they had solved one of the main technological issues, fully replacing the fittings, including through supplies from friendly states. Boxes with familiar furniture assembly instructions have already been put on sale for a limited range of products. Many facilities operating under the IKEA ‘umbrella’ previously lacked competencies in logistics and trade, but the commercial system assembly has already begun. The Leningrad Region is involved into this process.
It was reported earlier that, in March 2022, the Swedish IKEA Concern announced the suspension of operation of shops and production in the Russian Federation, as well as export-import deals with Belarus due to the introduction of Western sanctions against the countries.
