Belarus’ State Security Committee detected persons who planned to thwart referendum
The State Security Committee of Belarus has uncovered groups of persons that – led by foreign curators – planned to thwart the constitutional referendum in the country – as the ONT TV channel announced with reference to Konstantin Bychek, the Deputy Head of the KGB Investigation Department, BelTA reports
These persons – instructed from abroad – called for spoiling ballots, intimidating and threatening election commission members. The letters they sent on behalf of the police and judges contained direct threats and indicated that their addresses are known. The curators from abroad have been identified, while the co-ordinators and ordinary performers in Belarus have been detained.
"The State Security Committee continues to implement the measures to stop illegal activities of persons who are attempting to exert an illegal influence on the referendum’s election commission members. Actions – aimed at the disruption of the referendum, prevention of the Belarusian citizens from exercising their constitutional right to participate in the governance and life of society and the state – are a grave crime and manifestation of extremism," Mr. Bychek said, adding that the KGB knows all the instigators, organisers, performers, co-ordinators and sponsors of criminal acts.
"Ultimately, the principle of the unavoidability of punishment will be implemented in accordance with the existing law," he said.
