A delegation of the Emergencies Ministry led by Deputy Minister Igor Bolotov went to Zimbabwe to accompany and transfer the humanitarian cargo.
To overcome the consequences of an unprecedented drought in the northern regions of Zimbabwe, due to which more than 2.7 million people do not have sufficient access to food this year, the Belarusian side has sent diesel pumping units, medicines, food and basic necessities (blankets, children's clothing and shoes, hygiene products) to the country. The humanitarian cargo weighs about 30 tonnes, and its total cost makes Br1.2m.
On April 3rd 2024, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared a national disaster regime in the country due to the drought caused by El Nino.
"Belarus regularly provides humanitarian aid to countries affected by emergencies. Since 1999 (the year of the Emergencies Ministry’s establishment), the Republic of Belarus has provided international humanitarian assistance 85 times to 34 countries. Last year, it was provided five times: to the Syrian Arab Republic (twice), the Republic of Turkiye, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Cuba," the Emergencies Ministry’s press service said in a statement.
