Belarus sent humanitarian cargo to Sudan to help flood victims
On November 21st, an IL-76 plane with humanitarian cargo took off from Minsk to Khartoum accompanied by Belarusian rescuers, the Emergencies Ministry reports
Following the President’s instruction and in pursuance to a decree of the Council of Ministers, the Emergencies Ministry organised a set of measures to prepare and deliver a humanitarian cargo to the Republic of Sudan. Assistance was also rendered by the Foreign Ministry, the Transport Ministry, the Grodno Regional Executive Committee and Bellegprom.
As noted by the Emergencies Ministry, the issue of providing assistance to the Sudanese side to eliminate the consequences of a devastating flood was considered at a meeting of Emergencies Minister Vadim Sinyavsky with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sudan to the Republic of Belarus, Mohammed Omer Musa Ali, on November 10th. The parties then agreed on a list of products that the people of Sudan most need at the moment. These include gasoline pumping units, a diesel generator, canned meat, condensed whole milk with sugar, wheat flour, blankets and medicines. The 40-tonne cargo is worth about Br1m.
The plane was supposed to be refuelled in the Turkish city of Adana. A group of emergency workers accompanying the humanitarian cargo was headed by the First Emergencies Minister, Aleksandr Khudoleev.
As reported by the Emergencies Ministry, Belarus is providing humanitarian assistance to Sudan for the first time. Meanwhile, since 1999, our country has organised 76 humanitarian missions and rendered assistance to 32 countries as a result.
