The sides discussed topical issues of the development of the sports industry of the two states, including in difficult conditions of ongoing international political pressure, the improvement of systems and approaches aimed at mutually beneficial co-operation in the field of high performance sports, youth sports, as well as its medical support.

Belarus’ NOC Head stressed that in recent years, interaction between Belarus and Russia in physical culture and sports has reached a very high level, with our athletes and coaches gaining invaluable experience by participating in competitions with the strongest Russian athletes.

“Mikhail Vladimirovich, you will have a good opportunity to get acquainted with many modern sports facilities in Minsk and assess our capabilities. I would like to note that we are reliable partners and will continue to expand co-operation with Russia in the physical culture and sports,” Viktor Lukashenko said.

“Over the past four months, since my appointment to this position, we have been closely liaising with the Belarusian side, and we have repeatedly met with Sports and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk. I invite you, Viktor Aleksandrovich, for Russia – a Sports Power international forum to Ufa in October, where there will be a wide representation. We are open to everyone. I congratulate all Belarusian athletes on winning medals in Paris under such pressure. We will continue to develop our liaisons with our Belarusian friends,” Mikhail Degtyarev said.

The parties discussed issues of expanding co-operation in the main areas of activity and expressed their readiness to further strengthen bilateral ties.

Mikhail Degtyarev arrived in Minsk for a joint meeting of the boards of Belarus’ Sports and Tourism Ministry and Russia’s Sports Ministry, which will be held on September 20th.
