Belarus’ Prosecutor General's Office opened criminal case on facts of ill-treatment of refugees by Lithuania

The Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Belarus has opened a criminal case on the facts of gross violation by the Lithuanian side of the requirements of international law defining the civil and political rights of refugees, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office reports

The official representative of the Prosecutor General 's Office of the Republic of Belarus, Anzhelika Kurchak, said, “A criminal case on crimes against the security of humanity under Article 128 of the Criminal Code was initiated on the facts of gross violation by the Lithuanian side of the requirements of international law defining the civil and political rights of refugees, deportation and unjustified use of physical force and special means to migrants, deliberate failure to provide them with medical care, which led to the onset of grave consequences, including the death of refugees.”

It is reported that the criminal case was sent to the Investigative Committee for a preliminary investigation.
