Belarus’ PM, Rosatom CEO discussed expansion of co-operation in non-energy and non-nuclear projects
Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko has met with Director General of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation Aleksei Likhachev to discuss the expansion of Belarusian-Russian co-operation in nuclear non-energy and non-nuclear projects
“We previously held talks in May, and since then a lot of work has been done in the agreed areas in line with our document, which defines the spheres of co-operation. These include quantum technologies, joint software development, radiation medicine, digitalisation, and the automotive industry. A document will be signed today, which is an addition to the comprehensive programme of Belarusian-Russian co-operation in nuclear non-energy and non-nuclear projects. It will fill it with new areas. We are certainly keen to develop comprehensive business co-operation. The main task now is to intensify practical work in these areas,” the PM emphasised.
In turn, Mr. Likhachev noted that the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) was and remains the flagship project of co-operation between Belarus and Rosatom.
“The station is operating in a normal mode. It has generated a total of 38 billion kWh of electricity. We built it according to the formula of Belarus’ President Aleksandr Lukashenko – as for ourselves – and are now carrying out all further operation. I would like to note that Belarusian enterprises and specialists are working at Russian nuclear construction sites abroad. Bangladesh, Turkiye, Egypt, Hungary are construction sites that we can no longer imagine without our Belarusian partners. Belarusian companies that have passed the Ostrovets school are much-in-demand in Russia,” Mr. Likhachev explained.
He added that the issue of expanding bilateral supplies is also becoming important.
“A year ago, we received an order from President Aleksandr Lukashenko to expand our co-operation to nuclear non-energy and non-nuclear technologies. A comprehensive programme was signed in early 2024. In May, we made a number of decisions, and now we have the opportunity to discuss the results, and they are in practical certified products, completed contracts, projects. But the expansion of these areas in addition to the comprehensive programme has also been prepared and agreed with the Government of Belarus,” concluded Rosatom CEO.
