Belarus participating in global climate change meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh
A Belarusian delegation is participating in the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change which is held in Egypt from November 6th to 18th – as informed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection
The conference officially opened on November 7th, and a summit of 47 heads of state and government was held on the same day. Its participants made national statements. The CIS states were presented by reports of the presidents of Armenia and Tajikistan, as well as the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
The conference members called for maintaining the pace of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as well as preserving and increasing forest areas. In addition, they asked to fulfil the promise of allocating $100bn for the Adaptation Fund.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection added that the EU states confirmed their commitment to reducing fossil fuels despite the existing energy crisis.
