Belarus’ NOC President met with athletes after Thai boxing fights
The President of Belarus’ National Olympic Committee, Viktor Lukashenko, met with athletes in Vitebsk after the Thai boxing competition, BelTA reports
The NOC President talked with athletes, coaches, asked them of how they had been welcomed and accommodated. “We feel care at every step – including during the meeting of us at the railway station, accommodating at the hostel, and at competitions," a representatives of the Russian team noted.
Athletes are delighted with the Vitebsk audience, which chanted ‘Russia!’ on welcoming each participant of the competition, and representatives of the fraternal country admitted that they missed it. "[Vitebsk fans] support all countries. They love sports. Importantly, there is a sporting interest and excitement. I hope the performance is not inferior in emotions," Russian athletes stressed.
"Previously, only concerts in the Summer Amphitheatre were held here, in Vitebsk, but a sport event has been held already. I think you will agree that it looks not bad, and I think it will be interesting during the finals. I congratulate those who have passed on to the next stage, and I wish those who have failed not to worry: you still have everything ahead of you, this is sport,” the NOC President said.
Viktor Lukashenko also asked the athletes which countries, in their opinion, are the strongest in Muay Thai. Russians believe there are four main world players: Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, and Thailand. They also voiced a wish to meet more often in such a format. The Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Aleksandr Subbotin, promised that the sports ground, unique for such competitions, would be happy to again welcome international events – be it boxing, Muay Thai, MMA or any other sport.
“Take the Governor at his word. He will do what he has promised,” Viktor Lukashenko noted.
The coaches and fighters expressed great gratitude to both the organisers of the Games and the spectators, who come to the Summer Amphitheatre every day, pleasing the athletes with their emotions.
