Belarus informed UNHCR about cases of violence against refugees from Poland and Lithuania
Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic, National Co-ordinator for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals Valery Belsky and Chairman of the Permanent Commission on International Affairs and National Security Sergei Rachkov held a meeting on the sidelines of the summit on the Sustainable Development Goals in New York, held as part of the High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly with the Assistant High Commissioner for Operations at the headquarters of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Raouf Mazou – as reported by the press service of the upper house of Parliament.
During the meeting, issues of violation of the rights of refugees on the Polish-Belarusian and Lithuanian-Belarusian border were discussed. Raouf Mazou was informed about cases of violence against refugees by border services and other law enforcement agencies in Poland and Lithuania.
An agreement was reached to strengthen interaction with UNHCR to monitor the situation and investigate illegal actions using the potential of UNHCR, including its representative office in the Republic of Belarus.
