Belarus’ Foreign Minister held talks with his Uzbekistani counterpart
Negotiations between Belarus’ Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik and Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov have taken place place in Tashkent
According to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service, a wide range of issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda were substantively discussed during the meeting, “Special attention is paid to the development of trade-economic liaisons and increasing mutual trade, strengthening food security and developing industrial co-operation projects. The two sides expressed confidence that the 2nd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan, held in Tashkent on February 7th, 2024, will make an important contribution to strengthening economic ties and establishing direct interaction between the two countries’ regions. Over 150 representatives of regions of Belarus and the business community are taking part in the event. The ministers noted a high level of interaction in education, healthcare, culture, sports and tourism while also sharing views on the situation on the world stage and in the Eurasian region.”
The Foreign Ministry also said that the heads of foreign policy departments tackled in detail interaction within the UN, CIS and SCO, “The parties noted the similarity of approaches to building dialogue on international platforms, confirming their mutual desire for a more equitable world order. Sergei Aleinik thanked the Uzbek side for its consistent support in Belarus’ obtaining the status of a member state of the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation.
The ministers also discussed the schedule of bilateral events and visits for the near future.
As part of his stay in Uzbekistan, Sergei Aleinik paid tribute to the memory and laid flowers at the bust of the Belarusian writer, poet and public figure Yakub Kolas, who lived in Tashkent from 1941 to 1943.
