Belarus’ FM on why it is important for UN to engage in co-operation with regional structures
All countries have got tired of the fact that the UN cannot demonstrate itself as a serious player – as noted by Belarus’ Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov in his conversation with journalists on the side-lines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly

“There is one-sidedness today in the assessment of events and facts by the organisation, and this is primarily observed on the part of Secretariat [which acts] depending on regional preferences and manipulation by the collective West. Everyone asserts that Western countries have appointed their representatives in many positions, and manipulative actions are being implemented through them. The mechanisms laid down in the UN fail to work now, and this refers to the Palestinian issue as well," the Foreign Minister said.
Mr. Ryzhenkov drew attention to another important aspect, “New points of regional integration are emerging in many regions, and they embrace not only the issues of the economy, but also political aspects, aimed at forming unity on international and world problems. This would never have happened if the UN had dealt with issues the way it did 30-50 years ago. As a result, fragmentarity is coming to the fore, and regions start settling the issues independently. If the UN does not engage in co-operation with regional structures, does not find the tools to jointly resolve issues with them in the interests of all, then I see that the number of opinions that the organisation will repeat the fate of the League of Nations will grow.”
