Belarus’ first cosmonaut Vasilevskaya at Eurasian Women’s Forum: women can reach great heights

The Belarusian delegation headed by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova is taking part in the large-scale 4th Eurasian Women’s Forum in St. Petersburg. One of the representatives of our country at the grand event, bringing together guests from over 125 countries, was Belarus’ first cosmonaut Marina Vasilevskaya.

During a conversation with journalists before the start of the plenary session, she noted the solemn atmosphere and the scale of the event, while also sharing her opinion about what women can do, “A woman is a force, and my example proves this. In my life, I have convinced myself and even proved to some men that a woman can reach great heights.”

Marina Vasilevskaya also spoke about women’s role in Belarus, “Women stand on a par with men in our country, occupying leading positions in many areas. So, every second woman in our country takes a senior position in public organisations, enterprises, and Parliament.”

The 4th Eurasian Women’s Forum – an authoritative international platform for dialogue between women leaders – gathered representatives from more than 125 countries for dialogue. The forum participants include first ladies, vice presidents, deputy prime ministers, ministers, female parliamentarians, representatives of executive authorities, international organisations, business circles, business and scientific community, public organisations and charitable projects, authoritative figures of the international women’s movement from many countries of the world. The event is organised by the Federation Council of Russia’s Federal Assembly and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.

This year’s event is themed Women for Building Trust and Global Co-operation. In general, the business programme covers more than 100 events, and over 300 will be held within the framework of the forum.
