Belarus’ Economy Minister on GDP growth in 2023
Last year, GDP totalled 103.9 percent – higher than planned, with Belarus’ Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar speaking about the country’s economic results over the past year in his talk with Belarus 1 TV channel
The head of the economic department said that, according to the Economy Ministry’s forecast, the GDP level was 103.8 percent. As a result, the bar was exceeded and it made up 103.9 percent, “Many industries have contributed to this result. The key and most important is the work of the industrial complex, with enterprises creating potential for the development of other industries. The industrial growth rate stands at 107.7 percent, largely not due to, e.g., market-driven goods. We have significantly expanded machine building. It is an industry that integrates other industries by producing its goods. The construction industry increased by 111 percent. We rolled out the programme and significantly increased the construction of rental housing. Agriculture – despite a certain crop failure last year – finished the year above 100 percent due to livestock farming. In 2023, record figures were achieved for many of our product items, both in terms of production and export.”
As part of the target plan approved by the Government, the tasks are detailed for each department, concern and regional executive committee, including major positions: production, export and supply to certain markets.
Yuri Chebotar added, “If there’s an idea and, most importantly, an understanding that there is even greater growth potential, there are new markets, new types of products. This year has been declared the Year of Quality, and this is important from the standpoint of increasing the country’s competitiveness.”
