Belarus’ Defence Minister said nuclear drills showed high readiness of Belarusian military
The nuclear exercises conducted together with the Russian military showed the high readiness of both countries to respond to possible challenges – as stated by Belarus’ Defence Minister, Lieutenant General Viktor Khrenin, in his talk with the STV TV channel
“The training conducted jointly with our Russian colleagues showed the high readiness of our military personnel, their high level of training and their ability to perform assigned tasks [for the use of nuclear weapons]. It can be stated that today we are ready and are able to use these weapons when necessary. Of course, it’s better not to get to this point,” Mr. Khrenin noted.
He also added that there will be similar training exercises in the future. According to him, it’s necessary to maintain the level of military training for possible conflict situations.
“They will be held as planned. Of course, we will notify about things, and some activities will be carried out without notice. We’re going to be fine,” the Defence Minister underlined.
Thanks to close co-operation with Russia, we’ve managed to seriously upgrade the technical component of our equipment. Mr. Khrenin explained that the state armament programme implies the constant modernisation of some samples, major repairs or the purchase of new equipment.
“The currently presented range of weapons, we no longer need anything additional. After all, the most important thing in this is that it stands, iron is trained, trained people,” the Defence Minister explained.
