Belarus’ Defence Minister and CSTO Secretary General negotiated in Minsk
The Belarusian Defence Ministry hosted a bilateral meeting between the Defence Minister, Lieutenant General Viktor Khrenin, and the CSTO Secretary General, Imangali Tasmagambetov, the Defence Ministry reports
The parties discussed the preparations for a joint meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defence Ministers, the Committee of Secretaries of the CSTO Security Councils, and also a session of the CSTO Collective Security Council. They summed up the interim results of the implementation of joint activities envisaged in the format of the organisation for the period of Belarus’ chairmanship in 2023.
According to the source, Mr. Khrenin noted that the special attention of the Belarusian side during its chairmanship was focused on the development of the military component of the organisation, in particular, on increasing the readiness of the CSTO components of troops (collective forces) to perform tasks according to their intended purpose.
At the end of the meeting, the Defence Minister wished the CSTO Secretary General fruitful work as part of his participation in the Eurasian Security: Reality and Prospects in Transforming World high-level conference.
The meeting enabled the parties to analyse the current state of co-operation and outline further areas of interaction in the CSTO format, taking into account national interests and priorities.
