Belarus’ CEC to take part in observation of presidential elections in Russia
The Central Election Commission of Belarus has received an invitation to become an observer at Russia’s presidential elections in March 2024 – as informed by the CEC Chairman, Igor Karpenko
The CEC Chairman confirmed, “Belarus has received such an invitation. Moreover, I received it much earlier than the official one: even before the start of the electoral process in the Russian Federation, we met with my Russian colleague Ella Pamfilova [Head of Russia’s Central Election Commission] in St. Petersburg and discussed the plans of exchanging delegations to observe our elections. In Russia, elections are scheduled for March 15th-17th, and Single Voting Day will be held in Belarus prior to this date. We plan to sum up its results in early March and afterwards go to Russia to observe its elections.”
According to Mr. Karpenko, the Belarusian CEC has a bilateral agreement with the Russian Central Election Commission, and the parties closely co-operate. “Last year alone, we had several meetings with Ella Pamfilova: as part of the observation of the referendum in Uzbekistan, during the study of the experience of introducing electronic technologies into the electoral process of the Russian Federation, and within the framework of a large conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Russian Central Election Commission in St. Petersburg. As part of this interaction, we are definitely accepting the invitation and will participate in the observation of the presidential elections in Russia,” he added.
