Belarus ahead within CIS in number of health workers per 10,000 population
Belarus is ranked first among the CIS member states in the number of health workers per 10,000 population – according to the data of the National Statistical Committee of Belarus (Belstat), sb.by reports
According to the country’s statistical department, by late 2023, there were 125 thousand mid0level medical personnel, as well as 55.8 thousand medical specialists, of which 48.7 thousand were practitioners. Women prevail in the healthcare sector, accounting for more than 95 percent of health workers and almost 74 percent of doctors. As far as practitioners are concerned, the majority of them — 17.7 thousand people — have a therapeutic profile, while 14.3 thousand doctors chose the surgical direction and 5.4 thousand specialise in dentistry.
Last year, there were 53 medical practitioners and 137 mid-level medical personnel per 10,000 population in Belarus – higher than in Norway, Germany, and the Netherlands. Moreover, the Belstat underlines that Belarus occupies a leading position among the CIS countries.
In 2023, more than 870 thousand operations were performed in Belarus, of which over 121 thousand were conducted using endoscopic (flexible) and laparoscopic equipment. During this period, Belarusian doctors performed 344 kidney transplants, 77 liver transplants and 41 heart transplants.
