Australian pharmacies lack antibiotics
The Vice-President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Adele Tahan, noted that there is a shortage of antibiotics in Australian pharmacies due to problems with their supplies from abroad, ABC News TV channel reports
It is informed that the situation with the shortage of antibiotics in Australian pharmacies will not change in the near future. “Australia does not produce many medicines at home, 90 percent of them come from abroad. We rely on global supplies, but sadly, the situation now is such that we are waiting for antibiotics to become available," Ms. Tahan said.
According to the official, there are also other problems that affect medical deliveries: prices in the country have fallen and, accordingly, the Australian pharmaceutical market has become not so attractive for suppliers.
"This makes us the last country where medicines can come, unlike the American market – which is larger in volume and sets a higher price for drugs," Ms. Tahan added.
