Ambrazevich discussed Belarus’ achievement of SDGs under sanctions with UN Under Secretary General
Belarus’ Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Ambrazevich has met with UN Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development of the UN Economic and Social Council in New York – as reported by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service
It is noted that the meeting tackled issues of Belarus’ implementation of the sustainable development agenda until 2030 in the context of unilateral economic restrictions imposed by Western states.
“The interlocutor was given a detailed explanation of the negative consequences of export restrictions on Belarusian potash fertilisers for global food security. An agreement was reached to consider the possibility of a visit by the UN Under Secretary General to Belarus in 2024 to participate in the national forum on the SDGs,” the Foreign Ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry also reported that Yuri Ambrazevich had a meeting on the sidelines of the forum with Olga Algayerova, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, “The prospects for further co-operation across various areas, including sustainable development, and the implementation of international technical assistance projects in Belarus were discussed.”
