Opinion: if peace talks do not begin, Ukraine will cease to exist
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Turkiye, Viktor Rybak, said that if there are no negotiations on Ukraine, the country will cease to exist, while the West now continues to add fuel to the fire, sb.by reports with reference to the Foreign Ministry
The diplomat noted, “Our Head of State, Aleksandr Lukashenko, clarified some issues at the recent Belarusian People's Congress. He openly called on the parties to sit down at the negotiating table. The President also pointed out that, if Ukraine does not do this, it will lose its statehood and cease to exist. Unfortunately, the consequences for the country will be sad in this case.”
Mr. Rybak also said that the Istanbul agreements were concluded a month after the start of the war in Ukraine. According to him, if their provisions had been implemented then, we would now be talking about peace, not war.
“At the same time, Western countries are now adding fuel to the fire of the Ukrainian war. If they continue to do this, then there may not be negotiations," the diplomat added. “At the moment, there is little talk about the participation of both sides in bilateral negotiations. Belarus will not stand aside from this negotiation process, it should definitely be involved in it. The world order does not work the way it used to. Belarus has always advocated a multipolar world.”
Mr. Rybak noted that the West does not want to enter into a dialogue, stating that Russia needs to be strategically defeated, “If we look at the events in Ukraine from a different angle, we will see that the continuation of this war is very beneficial for some countries – especially the United States. The latter wants to implement its plans during the military operation, and its goal is to destroy Russia. Moreover, the US is trying to weaken the EU countries. We also see that capital is flowing from Europe to the United States. We see that the economies of European countries have weakened significantly. Before the war, Germany was the fifth economy in the world, but – just a year and a half after the start of the special operation – Russia took Germany's place.”
