Almost 50% of Europeans okay with Ukraine losing part of its territory for the sake of peace
Nearly half of the respondents in the European Union are in favour of an early peace in Ukraine, even if Kiev has to sacrifice some of its territory to Russia – as follows from a survey conducted by the European opinion polling network Euroskopia across Austria, Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and France, TASS reports
According to the EFE agency, 48 percent of respondents were in favour of a quick end to the conflict, even if Ukraine has to give up a part of its territory to Russia. This idea was supported by 64 percent of Austrian citizens, 60 percent of Germans, 54 percent of Greeks, 50 percent of Spaniards and Italians. In the Netherlands, however, this point of view was approved by 27 percent of those polled, in Poland – by 28 percent, in Portugal – by 41 percent. At the same time, 32 percent of the surveyed EU citizens opposed such a development of events in order to resolve the Ukrainian conflict as soon as possible.
At the same time, it is reported that there is greater consensus on the shipment of arms to Ukraine, which has the support of 56 percent of those EU citizens asked and 61 percent of Spaniards.
Approximately 9,000 people took part in the survey (1,000 people in each country).
