Aleinik: Belarus ready to offer platforms for implementation of profitable promising projects to Turkish partners

The Belarus-Russia-Turkiye trilateral project related to the design and construction of a reinforced concrete plant in the south of Turkiye, in the city of Kilis, is in the initial stage of its development – as announced by Belarus’ Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik at a plenary session of the Belarusian-Turkish joint intergovernmental commission on economic co-operation held in Ankara

“We hope this project will also be a good contribution to the restoration of the regions of Turkiye affected by earthquakes,” Mr. Aleinik said.

According to the Foreign Minister, Belarus and Turkiye have also established active investment co-operation, “My colleague has announced the figure of $1.5bn: this is the volume of Turkish investments into the Belarusian economy. A cellular communication project is being implemented in Belarus with the participation of Turkcell, and the Turkish company became the owner of 100 percent of our company's shares at the end of last year. In addition, a number of other projects with the participation of Turkish capital are being successfully implemented in the republic. High-quality products are produced, and they enjoy demand not only in Belarus, but also in the countries of our region. Some projects are under development.”

Mr. Aleinik stressed that these facts indicate that, in today's difficult time, those wishing to act are looking for opportunities and successfully working, while those who do not want or cannot do this, are looking for excuses. “We are ready to offer platforms for the implementation of profitable promising projects and provide preferences in Belarus’ free economic zones to our Turkish partners. We are ready to offer a special preferential regime in the Great Stone Industrial Park. Turkish business has such initiatives, and we have already discussed them. We hope for the arrival of Turkish business in the economy of Belarus,” he noted.

The Foreign Minister expressed confidence that the activity and pragmatic approach to co-operation will enable Belarus and Turkiye not only to fulfil the tasks set by the leaders of the countries, but also to reach a higher level of multifaceted relations, “To do this, we have good practices that we will jointly implement in the near future. In this context, I would like to emphasise the interest of the parties in further expanding the legal framework of our relations, which currently includes 40 intergovernmental, interdepartmental agreements. The annex to our final protocol has a list of eight agreements, on which we have agreed to accelerate joint work.”

As stated by Mr. Aleinik, the signed protocol of the 11th session will become a new action programme, a kind of roadmap for the development of bilateral economic relations in the short and medium term, enabling the parties to more fully use the available opportunities and potential for their bilateral co-operation.
