A loaf and two Polesie-bred horses presented to Lukashenko in Mikashevichi

During the ceremony honouring agricultural workers at the Dazhynki-2024 festival-fair in Mikashevichi, Chairman of the Brest Regional Executive Committee Piotr Parkhomchik presented President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko with a loaf baked from the grain harvested this year and a book about horses of the Polesie population. He also informed that two horses – stallion Bantik and mare Govorukha – will soon be delivered to the President's private subsidiary farm.

The Polesie horse is an ancient population that has been forming for centuries on the territory of the Pripyat Polesie. Its unique qualities have become due to the local harsh and isolated conditions: the horse is known for its phenomenal resistance to adverse environmental factors. The breed has another peculiar feature: it has a genetic material of the forest tarpan who has completely disappeared by now (the last herd in the wild was destroyed in 1879).

Mr. Parkhomchik noted in his speech, “The Brest Region is completing the sowing of winter crops for the 2025 harvest, and the harvesting campaign of this year is almost over. I would like to report that the total gross result for cereals, legumes, buckwheat, millet and rapeseed has exceeded 2 million tonnes. The Brest Region pays special attention to the instructions of the President, and the task to achieve a result of 2.5 million tonnes is being steadily fulfilled.”

Speaking about the horses presented to the Head of State, Mr. Parkhomchik explained, “This is a hardworking breed that helped people survive in various difficult moments.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko smiled in a response, “I appointed the governor not so long ago, and he has already set me on a horse. Thank you. He knows that I have a special attitude towards animals. I have horses that were presented to me from abroad, and I take care of them. Therefore, your two horses (I know what kind of breed they are) will find a good place in my presidential household.”

The Head of State also visited The First in Region Number One exhibition dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the institution of presidency in Belarus. Aleksandr Lukashenko left an autograph on a tablet dedicated to his visit to Mikashevichi. It will join the exhibits of the show that is scheduled to tour all districts of the region throughout the year.
