98% Belarusians view family as most important part of their life
Svetlana Belash, the Head of the Population, Gender and Family Policy Department at Belarus’ Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, commented on the value of the concept of family for Belarusians in her talk with the First Channel of the Belarusian Radio
“Opinion polls show that 98 percent of Belarusians consider family to be the most important part of their life. More than 80 percent of our country’s residents live in families," Ms. Belash explained.
According to the official, the state is pursuing a very targeted and large-scale policy in relation to families with children. “All-sided support is provided – including material and social. Guarantees and benefits are available in various spheres of life. After all, children are not only happiness for their parents: they are the future of our country," she said.
Ms. Belash added, “Based on the population census results, 1 million 143 thousand families with minor children are registered in the country. Over the past decades, the number of families with two children has increased by 13 percent, and there are now more married couples with three or more children.”
