84,000+ Ukrainian citizens arrived in Belarus in a year
As of 6am on February 24th, 84,020 citizens of Ukraine arrived in Belarus – as reported by the State Border Committee of Belarus in its Telegram channel
15,890 Ukrainians arrived in Belarus through the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, 53,407 arrived in transit through Poland, 11,936 – through Lithuania, and 2,787 – through Latvia.
The border department recalled that the Belarusian side began to accept foreigners coming from the territory of Ukraine from February 24th last year.
“Ukrainian citizens who applied were provided with places for temporary residence. Moreover, the Belarusian Red Cross Society, in co-operation with the Emergencies Ministry, deployed mobile heating points near the villages of Gden, Poddobryanka and the Novaya Guta border crossing. Mobile pharmacies worked on the spot, rescuers, medical workers and volunteers were on duty around the clock,” the State Border Committee added.
Alongside Ukrainian citizens, Belarus let other foreigners in need of help into its territory.
“Their passage from the Ukrainian territory, taking into account the circumstances, was carried out without the documents necessary for crossing the border. At present, citizens of Ukraine continue to arrive in Belarus, who, if necessary, are provided with comprehensive assistance,” the State Border Committee noted.
