5+ tonnes of humanitarian cargo sent by Polotsk residents to twin city of Kursk

A large-scale campaign to support the civilian population of the Kursk Region – suffered as a result of the attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces – was launched in Polotsk during the first days after the tragedy. The initiative brought together representatives of local authorities, all public associations, political parties, deputies, labour teams, organisations, and just concerned citizens. The Polotsk regional branch of the Belaya Rus Party and the Polotsk regional organisation of the Belaya Rus Republican Public Association actively joined the charity marathon.

Their chairperson Irina Deminova shared her impressions, “This year marks 10 years since Polotsk and Kursk have established friendly ties. We could not stay away from the tragedy that befell the civilian population of the twin city. Such actions best demonstrate the sense of unity and solidarity of the Belarusian people. The Belaya Rus association continues to collect aid for the Kursk Region residents today, and so far our public reception rooms receive appeals from concerned Polotsk residents with a desire to help the victims.”

The most necessary and even more has been collected. For several hours, volunteers loaded numerous boxes of food, medicines, clothes, bedding, hygiene products and even household appliances into vehicles. It turned out to be more than 5 tonnes of humanitarian aid. The cargo proceeded from Polotsk to Vitebsk and was delivered to the addressees the other day. According to Irina Deminova, the response of the Russian neighbours did not take long to wait.

“Our Kursk brothers not only sent sincere words of gratitude to the residents of Polotsk, but also expressed hope for further strengthening of fraternal ties in peacetime,” she said.
