4,000 Slovak farmers to join protests against EU's agrarian policy
About four thousand farmers in Slovakia intend to join European protests against the EU's agricultural policy on February 22nd, TASS reports
The President of the Slovak Chamber of Agriculture and Food, Emil Macho, announced, “We are joining the pan-European protests of farmers scheduled for February 22nd. We want to express our disagreement with the fact that the European Union is falling into an abyss. Europe and, of course, Slovakia will import not only soybeans, but also meat there. By now, 4,000 farmers with 2,200 units of agricultural machinery have registered [to participate in the protests]. Protests will be held in 37 localities. Farmers will also be at the checkpoints [on the land borders] of the republic."
In particular, farmers plan to stop traffic at the checkpoint near the town of Holic on the border with the Czech Republic and at the checkpoint near the town of Trstena on the border with Poland. They will be joined there by Czech, Hungarian and Polish colleagues, who will also hold protests against the EU's agrarian policy on February 22nd.
The protests in Slovakia will begin on February 22nd at 9am local time (11am Minsk time) and will end no later than 3pm (5pm Minsk time). According to Emil Macho, they will be the largest in the country's history. It is reported that traffic-related inconveniences are possible on roads.
