3,300-year-old sunken ship found off Israeli coast
The wreckage of a 3,300-year-old ship with a cargo of hundreds of intact amphorae was discovered during exploration work off the coast of Israel, TASS reports
It is noted that this is the oldest ship ever found in deep water. It was discovered by chance during a research of the seabed by oil and gas producer Energean, a company focused on developing resources in the Mediterranean Sea.
The remains of the ancient vessel were located at a depth of 1.8km, 90km off the northern coast of Israel. Experts clarified that it is a Canaanite cargo ship from the Bronze Age. It is assumed that it could have been wrecked due to a storm or a pirate attack, which often happened during the late Bronze Age.
