28th International Theatre Festival Belaya Vezha kicked off in Brest
The festival has brought together troupes from seven countries: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Denmark, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan

“This wonderful international forum has become a cultural brand of our region, a real celebration of theatrical art, which gathers creative people who are in love with the theatre and the stage,” Vadim Kravchuk, the Deputy Chairman of the Brest Regional Executive Committee, said at the opening ceremony. “We are proud that this forum has become a platform for dialogue between cultures. Here, different ideas, opinions, and creative approaches intersect.”
The Belaya Vezha programme includes 22 performances by twenty-two troupes, and the Brest Academic Drama Theatre opened the festival (which will last until September 15th) with its Fathers and Children. Most productions are based on works of classical literature, and the characters of A. Pushkin, M. Lermontov, N. Gogol, A. Ostrovsky, F. Dostoevsky, N. Leskov, I. Turgenev, A. Chekhov, M. Gorky, W. Shakespeare, G. H. Andersen, O. Henry and others will come to life on stage.
Interestingly, the performances are staged in three languages: Belarusian, Russian and Komi.
