13 Belarus’ polar explorers to set off on an Antarctic expedition in November
The vanguard team of the 16th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition will leave for the ice continent in early November – as became known at a meeting of the Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Vladimir Gusakov, with participants of the 16th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition, according to the NASB press service
This year, 13 people will go to Antarctica, 7 team members already have experience working on the ice continent, six are newcomers. “An important point is that scientific workers make up half of the expedition,” noted the press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov, addressing the team members, said, “The main thing is that the expedition is united and ready to carry out important state tasks. And the main task is the development of our station in Antarctica.” He underlined that polar explorers must remember that they represent the country and must work harmoniously and effectively.
According to the Head of the Belarusian Antarctic Expedition, Aleksei Gaidashov, work to implement the logistical, technical, organisational and research tasks of the expedition is proceeding as planned.
