The Times: General Magowan announced participation of British marines in Ukraine operations
The British Royal Marines have taken part in covert operations in Ukraine – as stated by Lieutenant General Robert Magowan, RIA Novosti reports
According to the General referred to by The Times, he commanded this branch of the military until May. Robert Magowan told the Globe and Laurel magazine that the marines took part in the evacuation of the British embassy from Kiev to Poland in early 2022.
“Then in April, they [the marines] returned into the country to re-establish the diplomatic mission, providing protection to critical personnel. During both phases, the commandos supported other discreet operations in a hugely sensitive environment and with a high level of political and military risk,” The Times source noted.
Moreover, he said that Royal Marines were deployed to Ukraine to support the UK’s diplomatic presence in the country. The General assured they served no combat function.
Robert Magowan commanded the British Marine Corps from April 2021 to May 2022.
