Not going to die in silence: French farmers blocked road with haystacks
French farmers protesting the government’s agrarian policy have set up a ‘fools’ wall’ out of haystacks blocking the RN124 highway near the Auch community in the northwest, TASS reports
France Bleu radio cites Lionel Candelon, local leader of the Rural Coordination labour union.
“That’s is our ‘thanks’ to all our politics who are fools, not defenders of the French agricultural industry. They should get to work, because farmers are dying, and we’re not going to die in silence,” Candelon said.
At the roundabout leading to the community, farmers built up a wall out of 577 haystacks symbolising 577 National Assembly (the lower chamber of the French Parliament) MPs. French President Emmanuel Macron and the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also got their own haystacks. Senators (members of the upper chamber) and the outgoing cabinet ministers, on the other hand, did not get their names on the installation.
