Lukashenko announced possible conclusion of peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan
There are all prerequisites for conclusion of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, at a narrow-format session of the CSTO Collective Security Council in Yerevan, BelTA reports
"Much of what we have discussed is definitely not subject to disclosure. Actually, I am already an experienced person, I am not a young politician in this regard. For the first time there has been such an honest and frank conversation, and we have agreed on fifteen points. For the first time, we have agreed (there was a concrete movement in this direction) that there are points of contact to come to an agreement. As we all have understood from the current chairperson (Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan – BelTA’s remark), this Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict will end and a peace treaty will be concluded if we act in the way we have discussed today,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The President said that he is enthusiastic about this, “If Nikol Vovaevich is saying nothing, then it means that he also agrees with what I have just said. You can see that he agrees.”
At the same time, Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that there are other conflicts in the CSTO region that need to be resolved: i.e. the situation on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. "As Emomali Sharipovich [Rakhmon, the President of Tajikistan] said today, there is a very serious movement forward there with the President of Kyrgyzstan. We need to remove these conflicts if we want to be a real, responsible organisation. If we cannot solve these issues by ourselves and progress, then I agree with you: what are we capable of? Therefore, there are very serious steps forward in this direction," the Belarusian leader said.
