Lithuania, Rheinmetall to sign agreement on ammunition plant construction
The signing of a contract with the Rheinmetall defence concern on the construction of an ammunition plant in Lithuania is scheduled for the end of April 2024, TASS reports
The Minister of Economy and Innovation of Lithuania, Ausrine Armonaite, said, “We are actively working with Rheinmetall representatives. We hope that certain agreements will be signed within the next two weeks.”
It is specified that the Lithuanian plant will produce 155mm artillery shells.
Earlier, Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger noted that the new production facility in Unterluss, Lower Saxony, as well as two planned plants in Ukraine and Lithuania, will achieve the production of 1.1 million shells annually by 2027. A production target of 700,000 shells is planned for the current year.
