Lithuania raises defence spending by almost €100m in 2023
The Lithuanian Finance Ministry announced that the country is allocating almost €100m in additional allocations for defence needs this year, TASS reports
The head of the department, Gintare Skaiste, stressed that strengthening the defence capability is a priority for the Lithuanian government.
“Since the beginning of the work of the current cabinet of ministers, defence spending has increased by 73 percent. Additionally, the Defence Ministry system will be financed in the amount of €97.6m,” he said.
Additional military funding is allocated as part of the revision of the forecast for Lithuania’s GDP towards its increase during 2023.
Previously, it was envisaged that the defence of the country should be financed in the amount of 2.52 percent of GDP. Therefore, if it grows, then the share for military needs should also increase.
