Japan to build prototype lunar settlement with artificial gravity for 10,000 people
A full-scale prototype of a residential complex for lunar exploration with artificial gravity is to be commissioned in Japan by the 2030s. One of the country’s largest construction corporations, Kajima, and specialists from the private Kyoto University have agreed to work on the project, TASS reports.
Kyodo news agency reported that the rotating parabolic structure called The Lunar Glass will be 400m high and 200m in diameter, capable of housing up to 10 thousand people.
The project will be launched as early as this fiscal year, when related computer development and model building will begin. To date, a 1:2000 scale reduced prototype of the parabolic complex has already been built through the joint efforts of Kajima Corporation and Kyoto University.
By the way, many Japanese corporations are now implementing various projects related to the colonisation of the Moon. In particular, rovers for travelling on the Earth’s natural satellite are being developed by Toyota Motor, Japan’s largest automobile manufacturing corporation.
