Gigin comments on funds allocated to Iraq

So much money was allocated for reconstruction of Iraq that refugees should have lived in luxury homes in their homeland – as stated by the Chairman of the Republican Znanie Belarusian Society, a Candidate of Historical Sciences and an Associate Professor, historian Vadim Gigin, in his talk with Alfa Radio

“Polish politicians can say as much as they like that all this [the crisis on the border] was arranged by the Belarusian authorities. We are also accused of bringing refugees [to the border]. Does this mean that we were walking along Erbil, Sulaymaniyah or Baghdad and distributing money – proposing $5,000 for a help in creating this crisis? They [Europeans] actually arranged it and are now trying to accuse us. Actually, the practice of shifting problems to others – from a sick head to a healthy one – is a European problem. They used to get away with it previously but the situation has changed, as we see,” Mr. Gigin said.

According to the expert, funds will be allocated for construction of fences and assistance to refugees. He wondered how much of this money would be stolen, “If we look at how much money was allocated for reconstruction of Iraq, then these refugees should not be on our border – but rather live in chic and very comfortable houses in their native country.”

Mr. Gigin mentioned a version of American political scientists, “According to it, the Islamic State appeared and almost captured Baghdad for only one purpose: to write off all the money that was spent on reconstruction of the Iraqi army, economy and infrastructure. The funds were spent and stolen. Of course, corrupt Iraqi or Afghan officials are involved in this. But who umbrellas them and who participates in the kickback schemes?”

“The geopolitics, which we view as a struggle of meanings, interests, personalities, communications, conflicting great powers, truly exist. However, in reality, corruption schemes and interests of certain dishonest politicians are often behind this," Mr. Gigin added.
