Expert: Belarus manages to avoid being drawn into direct military conflict
Belarus does not intend to interfere in the Ukrainian conflict, now it is much more important to take care of the country’s security – as noted by political analyst Aleksandr Shpakovsky in his talk with Alfa Radio
According to the expert, ‘everything that happens in the Ukrainian theatre of military operations between Russia and Ukraine causes deep concern both in our political circles and among our fellow citizens’.
“Some of my subscribers are starting to worry that the war will spread to Belarus. In this regard, they ask questions about why we are helping Russia, though we are not a party to the conflict, etc. The President of Belarus absolutely correctly understands the international situation and the situation in which our state finds itself. Alas, Belarus has long been drawn into the conflict against our will. This conflict started not even in 2020, but back in the mid-1990s; it’s just that the turns of this conflict and the degree of its intensity are different depending on a particular period of time. We are subjected to large-scale economic aggression, the damage from which has not yet been calculated. It will have to be calculated,” said Aleksandr Shpakovsky.
According to the political analyst, imposing sanctions against Belarus, the West artificially restrains the country’s development.
“Now the sanctions are unprecedented. Moreover, our country has experienced seven attempts at hybrid coups, as a result of which – with the help of financial and other infusions from the collective West – attempts were made to overthrow the legitimate constitutional order by force. This is also a fact. Now we are facing terrorist and sabotage and intelligence threats, espionage activities, as well as the activity of foreign intelligence services, which, according to Belarus’ State Security Committee (KGB), is also unprecedented. This has never happened before, although we constantly experienced these 'attacks'. But now they are the most powerful,” noted Aleksandr Shpakovsky.
According to him, Belarus is involved in the conflict, but not in military uniform.
“Due to the various steps taken by the domestic diplomacy and leadership, including along the military line, we’ve manage to avoid being drawn into a direct military conflict. Firstly, we are not going to interfere in the war on the territory of Ukraine, we have to protect our own country. Secondly, Russian military support, providing us with the latest models of equipment and weapons, S-400 systems, Iskander-M operational-tactical missile systems capable of using both conventional and nuclear missiles, represents very serious assistance, being a cold shower for those who would like to carry out a military intervention in Belarus,” Aleksandr Shpakovsky concluded.
