Draft National Security Concept to be submitted for public discussion
The draft National Security Concept of Belarus was supported by the President and will soon be submitted for public discussion – as State Secretary of the Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich told journalists after a meeting of the Security Council headed by the President
In particular, the Secretary of State said that the National Security Concept is the second strategic document after the Constitution for protecting our national interests, identifying the existing threats and neutralising them. Aleksandr Volfovich explained that the structure of the concept answers three questions: what we protect, from whom we protect and how we protect.
The scientific and expert community of our country, alongside representatives of the Academy of Sciences and the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies were involved in the new concept’s development. The provisions of the concept were discussed during scientific and practical conferences, and in the media. Similar documents of such countries as Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, USA, Great Britain, Germany, France were studied.
“According to the results of the Security Council meeting, the draft National Security Concept was adopted as a basis,” Aleksandr Volfovich stressed. “The President set the task to continue work, first of all, to clarify the new provisions of the concept at dialogue platforms and in labour teams. Taking into account the proposals that will come in the course of work at the dialogue platforms, the document will be submitted for approval to the Belarusian People’s Congress.”
