Defence Ministry: Poland and Baltic states’ militarisation ‘a challenge’ to Belarus’ security
Accelerating militarisation of Poland and the Baltic states is a key challenge to Belarus’ security, said Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Vladimir Kupriyanyuk, BelTA reports citing the Defence Ministry press service
“Territories of Poland and the Baltic states are being turned deliberately into a staging ground for possible future use by NATO forces. Presently, there are factors in play that negatively affect the military-political situation around Belarus and create, plainly speaking, a challenge for the security of our country,” said Mr. Kupriyanyuk.
According to the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, that primarily means gradually strengthening presence of the US and their allies in Eastern Europe, including on the Belarusian borders.
“Accelerated militarisation of Poland and the Baltics is also important here. Let us not forget about intense preparations of NATO combined forces and national armies for combat operations in the east. Another essential factor that influences the situation continuously is the ongoing proxy war in Ukraine: it has the potential ignite both a wider regional conflict and a large war,” he emphasised.
There’s also a hybrid war that the West wages against Belarus, trying to set up conditions to overthrow the current government by force.
“Generally, in the short term, the situation around Belarus will remain tense. Destructive forces focused on fostering protest sentiment among the population started making themselves known after the date of the Presidential election had been announced. Their influence will grow the faster the closer the election date draws,” concluded the speaker.
